Can I Move to Singapore as a Software Engineer? EP and ONE Pass 2026

Singapore decides work passes fast, often within weeks. What decides whether yours is approved is the salary for your age band and how your profile scores under COMPASS.

By Senne Bels··Updated 17 October 2026

Short answer: It depends

Yes, with an employer. The Employment Pass is the standard pass for software engineers and is decided in about 0–1 months. The employer applies, and the salary has to clear a floor that rises with your age, starting at SGD 5,600/mo (≈ $52,564/yr).

The programmes that apply to software engineers in Singapore

Fees, salary floors and processing times below come from the official sources in Transita's visa database. Processing is an estimate from the published figure, not a promise.

Employment Pass headline floor: youngest age band, all sectors except financial services; MOM raises it with age to S$10,700 at 45 and above.

S Pass headline floor: benchmarked to the top third of local associate professional and technician salaries; rises with age, and again for new applications from 1 January 2027.

Personalised Employment Pass headline floor: fixed monthly salary to apply; the pass is kept only while fixed salary stays at or above S$270,000 per calendar year.

Overseas Networks & Expertise Pass headline floor: fixed monthly salary from a single employer for the 12 months before applying; an achievements route waives the salary bar entirely.

Employment Pass alternative floor: SGD 128,400/yr (applicants aged 45 or over).

Employment Pass alternative floor: SGD 74,400/yr (financial services).

Employment Pass alternative floor: SGD 72,000/yr (new applications from 1 January 2027).

Employment Pass alternative floor: SGD 79,200/yr (financial services, new applications from 1 January 2027).

S Pass alternative floor: SGD 57,600/yr (applicants aged 45 or over).

  • Employment Pass: The pass nearly every foreign engineer in Singapore holds. The qualifying salary rises with age, and a higher floor applies to new applications from January 2027 (both listed under the table).
  • S Pass: For associate-level technical roles below the EP floor. It is subject to quotas and levies on the employer, so fewer tech companies use it for engineers.
  • Personalised Employment Pass: For very high earners. It is not tied to one employer, so you can change jobs without a new application.
  • Overseas Networks & Expertise Pass: For top talent in business, research and other fields. It lets you work for several companies at once, which suits founders and principal engineers.

The salary floor and the 2027 change

The EP floor in our data starts at SGD 5,600/mo (≈ $52,564/yr) for the youngest age band. Other floors that may apply to you: SGD 128,400/yr (applicants aged 45 or over); SGD 74,400/yr (financial services); SGD 72,000/yr (new applications from 1 January 2027); SGD 79,200/yr (financial services, new applications from 1 January 2027). If you are close to the line, apply before the January 2027 change or plan for the higher figure.

Salary is stage one. MOM lists COMPASS as stage two of EP eligibility, after the qualifying salary. MOM also offers a self-assessment tool, which is worth running with your employer before they file.

What the employer has to do first

MOM requires employers to advertise the job on MyCareersFuture and consider all candidates fairly before applying for an Employment Pass. That step is the employer's, but it adds time between your offer and the application, so ask about it when you sign.

The EP fee is $254 and the pass is issued for up to 2 years at first. MOM also notes that experienced tech professionals with skills in shortage can apply for a longer EP, which is worth asking about if you have senior experience.

Senior engineers: PEP and ONE Pass

The Personalised Employment Pass needs SGD 22,500/mo (≈ $211,194/yr) and the Overseas Networks & Expertise Pass needs SGD 30,000/mo (≈ $281,592/yr), or an outstanding track record. Both free you from a single employer. For most engineers the EP is the realistic first step, and these passes come later.

Who sponsors software engineers in Singapore

Transita does not hold a Singapore sponsor register. On the EP the employer files the application after advertising the role on MyCareersFuture, so the useful question for a recruiter is whether the company has hired engineers on Employment Passes before and has run the COMPASS self-assessment for your role.

The Transita sponsor register collects the official sponsor lists we hold, so you can check an employer before you apply.
