What is the Greece Article 5C tax exemption?

Article 5C of the Greek Income Tax Code exempts 50% of your employment or business income from tax for up to 7 years after you transfer your tax residence to Greece. The remaining 50% is taxed at standard progressive rates (9% to 44%). You must not have been a Greek tax resident in 5 of the prior 6 years.

What income do I need for the Greece Digital Nomad Visa?

Minimum €3,500/month (€42,000/year) for a single applicant. Add 20% for a spouse (€4,200/month) and 15% per child (€525/month per child). Income must come from a non-Greek employer or freelance clients outside Greece.

Can I apply from inside Greece?

No. Since February 2026 (Law 5275/2026), in-country applications are no longer accepted. You must apply at a Greek consulate or embassy in your country of residence before travelling.

Does time on the Digital Nomad Visa count toward permanent residence?

Yes. Continuous legal residence counts. After 5 years you're eligible for permanent residence. After 12 years: citizenship. The initial visa is 12 months, renewable in 2-year increments.

How much does the Greece Digital Nomad Visa cost?

€1,000 for the main applicant, plus €150 per additional family member, plus €16 per person for the residence permit card. Total for a solo applicant: €1,016.
