Frequently asked questions
What is the CRS score?+
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is the 1,200-point scoring system Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses to rank Express Entry candidates. Higher-scoring candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in periodic draws. The system covers age, education, language ability, work experience, and adaptability factors (spouse credits, Canadian education, job offers, provincial nomination).
What CRS score do I need for Express Entry in 2026?+
Recent general FSW/CEC draws have landed between 470 and 540 points. Category-based draws (healthcare, STEM, French-language) can go lower — sometimes 380-450. Provincial Nominee (PNP) draws are effectively guaranteed once you hold a nomination, because the +600 boost puts you well above any cutoff.
Is this calculator accurate?+
This is a conservative estimate based on age, education, and work experience. Real CRS includes major scoring factors this calculator does not capture: official-language test results (CLB, up to 136 points), spouse/partner factors (up to 40 points), skill transferability multipliers, and bonuses for job offers, Canadian study, French ability, or a Canadian sibling. Your actual CRS score is usually 50-150 points higher than this estimate once language tests are factored in. Take the full Transita assessment for a refined score with country comparison.
What's the difference between FSW, CEC, and PNP?+
FSW (Federal Skilled Worker) is for candidates without Canadian work history. CEC (Canadian Experience Class) requires at least 1 year of skilled Canadian work — it bypasses several FSW requirements and adds Canadian work experience points. PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) means a province has nominated you; the +600 CRS boost makes ITA virtually automatic.
What if I score below the cutoff?+
You have options: improve your CRS (take an IELTS/CELPIP test or boost your score, study French, secure a provincial nomination, or get more skilled work experience), switch streams (a category-based draw or PNP), or explore alternative paths — Canada has 20+ economic immigration programmes beyond Express Entry. Transita maps every option against your profile.
