All 12 run on one of two mechanisms. For the temporary work routes an employer files Form I-129 as a change of status, which only works while your current status is still valid. For the employment green cards you adjust status inside the country once a visa number is available for your category, which is a queue and not a formality.
For the one US route left we have not sourced the answer and we do not print one. A confident wrong answer about whether you have to leave the country is worse than no answer, so those stay blank until somebody reads the page. The same field exists for the UK, Australia and Canada, which is how the quiz knows to treat an applicant already in the country differently from one applying from home.
How these numbers stay true
Every route above carries two things a comparison page usually does not: the address of the government page it came from, and the date a person last read that page. The oldest of those dates is 2 May 2026, the newest is 20 Sept 2026. Both are printed on the route's own page, next to the link out.
A job re-reads every source once a week and hashes what comes back. When a page changes, the route is flagged for a person instead of being quietly rewritten, because nothing automated can tell a reworded paragraph from a raised salary threshold.
Routes that legally exist but are not being issued right now get marked and dropped out of matching altogether. Today that mark sits on 2 of them. Leaving one in a results list would send somebody off to book an appointment no consulate is currently giving out, which is worse than showing them one option fewer.
