Cities ranked by family
Schools, parks, family-friendly housing, and the cost of raising kids.
How we score this
Score 0-100. Combines school quality (public + reasonable-cost private), park and outdoor space density, family-housing affordability, and the safety subscore. Cities at 88+ make raising kids feel like the default rather than a financial uphill. Cities at 70-85 are workable but require deliberate neighborhood selection. Below 70, family logistics are a genuine challenge.
Signals we look at
- Public school quality (national rankings)
- Park and outdoor space per capita
- 3BR rent normalized to median income
- Editorial review of family-friendly neighborhood depth
Scores are editorial assessments, not algorithmic. We update them as data refreshes from public sources and as the editorial revisits each city.
