Ranking · Nature
Cities ranked by nature
Access to ocean, mountains, parks, and weekend-able wilderness.
How we score this
Score 0-100. Distance from the city center to genuinely high-quality nature, weighted by how often residents actually go. Vancouver and Sydney score in the 90s because both have ocean and mountains within an hour. Berlin scores high not for proximity but for the density of in-city parks and lakes. Cities at 70 typically have one strong nature anchor (a coastline, a mountain, a national park) rather than the full set.
Signals we look at
- Distance from center to coastline, mountains, and major parks
- In-city park and waterfront access
- Quality of weekend-able wilderness
Scores are editorial assessments, not algorithmic. We update them as data refreshes from public sources and as the editorial revisits each city.
